Who We Are

McAllen FUMC is a faith family for all, serving all (somos una familia de fe para todos, sirviendo a todos). Our members come from across the Valley and the United States. We worship in person and online. No matter where you come from or where you are in life, you are welcome here at McAllen First. There is a place for you and we’d love to have you as part of our church family.

We are also called to serve all people. We’ve helped and supported our local hospitals and staff during the crush of COVID. In the aftermath of Hurricane Hanna, we coordinated disaster response efforts within the community and partnered to provide thousands of meals to those hardest hit. We are on the front line of response to the ever-changing immigration crisis, providing meals and children’s programs for displaced families and networking with non-profits up and down the border. We love our community. And we have deep roots here. For more than 100 years we have been a spiritual center for our community. As it grows, so do we. And when it hurts, we are there.

Get to know the UMC:

The United Methodist Church is a global denomination that opens hearts, opens minds and opens doors through active engagement with our world. The mission of The United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. John Wesley and the early Methodists placed primary emphasis on Christian living, on putting faith and love into action. This emphasis on what Wesley referred to as "practical divinity" has continued to be a hallmark of United Methodism today.

Our Church History

For 112 years, McAllen FUMC has been sharing God’s love with our community. In 2002, we left our historic downtown campus for the sake of expanding ministry. Our first building on the new site wasn’t a sanctuary, but a multi-use gym. Every Sunday, children and youth from the surrounding community come to play ball- it makes stacking chairs after worship worth it! We are a church family for all people.
