Pastors Perspective

November 2015

by Ricky Sanderford on November 01, 2015

I had Lincoln Logs as a child. Remember those? I’d build cabins, forts and other structures my imagination could muster. Most children today probably would not know what Lincoln Logs are. Legos are the modern building blocks of today. They’re cool. In my role as dad and grandad, I’ve been privileged to help build everything from airplanes to boats to Star Wars space ships.

I have building on the mind. Human beings build. It’s in our nature to build. We have the DNA to create because we are created in God’s image who created and is creating. So we build houses, cities, countries and nations. We build families, businesses and schools. We build relationships with our spouse, siblings, children and co-workers. We build churches.

God has created the church to serve as the living embodiment of the kingdom of God. The church is the precursor to heaven. It is in the church that people are to brush up against what is here now only in part, but will be fully realized when God’s kingdom is fully established here on earth. Namely, people are to experience God’s love, grace and acceptance in the church. A glimpse of heaven.

On a side note. We are thinking and praying about building a building the church could use for worship. But regardless of whether or not that building ever is built, it is our great privilege and responsibility to build the church. What role do you fulfill in helping to build the church? Are you allowing God to build you up as a child of God? Do others see God’s craftsmanship in you? See you worship and around the community.

Grace and peace,
Ricky
