Pastors Perspective

Pastor's Perspective June 2019

by Ricky Sanderford on May 28, 2019

June is upon us. June...the thermometer threatens the three-digit level. June...summer schedules for families begin with a bit more flexibility….annual conference for people called United Methodists.  Annual conference is a gathering of delegates from each church in the Rio Texas Annual Conference to conduct the necessary business of the church. Business sessions are important, but maybe not the most memorable events of AC. Chairs grow hard after hours of sitting and listening.

However, events that occur around each annual conference are memorable, spirit lifting and Holy Spirit-filled. I’m speaking of the worship services held each day of AC. The music and preaching are always done with excellence. Gathering with 1000-1500 brothers and sisters in Christ to praise God and beseech God in prayer fills the soul to overflowing, and I always leave AC energized.

Attendance at regular worship tends to wan during the summer months, but be reminded that worship puts us in God’s presence, stirs up our own spirits, and strengthens us to live each day to the fullest for God and others. This summer I want to encourage everyone to heed the advice of Hebrews 10:25, Don’t stop meeting together with other believers, which some people have gotten into the habit of doing. Instead, encourage each other, especially as you see the day drawing near.

No matter where your travels take you this summer or how your schedule changes, remember to honor God through your worship and giving. God’s relentless love for you never stops. May it be so with our love of God and neighbor. See you in worship and around the community!

Grace and peace,

Pastor Ricky
